Global Teen Maths, Literacy Scores In ‘Unprecedented’ Decline — OECD Research
A new survey by the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has found that one in four teenagers are low performers in reading, maths, and science – but Covid school closures were only partly to blame.
Almost 700,000 15-year-olds were tested across 81 countries and showed the steepest drop in performance since OECD testing began in 2000, equivalent to three-quarters of a year’s studying.
Germany, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Poland saw sharp drops in mathematics scores, while Singapore, Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea outperformed in math and science.
